Necklace Air Base Hunter

The Air Force Fighter necklace depicts the lynx-adorned beret emblem. The jewelry is actually an exact replica in miniature. For many, the jewelry is a way to manifest and remember their time at the Air Force Fighter Company, the knowledge and comrades they gained for the rest of their lives.

History

The most important task of the air base hunters during the 1980s and 1990s was to prevent the enemy from reaching the defense air bases and destroying important equipment or eliminating key personnel. The unit patrolled 10–20 km outside the air base (Base 90) with dogs – in order to locate and eliminate the enemy early on. The air base hunters were part of a base battalion (Basbat 85) organized into 1-2 air base hunter platoons, and the platoon in turn consisted of four hunter groups (8 soldiers per group) and a staff group. Until 1994, the training was 7.5 months, after which the training was extended to 11.5 months. In the early 2000s, the air base hunters' tasks shifted more to reconnaissance. This was a development of the old combat technique of combat reconnaissance. The unit moved away from eight-man groups and instead became five soldiers in patrols. During the second half of the 1990s, the tasks shifted more to finding people in distress. The need for qualified rescue resources within the Armed Forces became more relevant in the 2000s, and rescue (Personnel Recovery) is today one of the most important tasks of the air base fighter unit.

The Air Force Fighter School was previously responsible for all air force fighter training and development of the air force fighter service - but the air force fighter school was closed on December 31, 2010 and instead an air force fighter company was formed that is part of the Blekinge Air Force Squadron, F17.
