Necklace Attack Diver

The necklace is a very faithful and proportionate miniature of the original training badge, but with the characteristically bent tips. The necklace is usually made of silver which is then gilded with real gold, just like the beret badge and the later training badge. The assault divers began, it is unclear when, quite immediately to bend their tips in order to differentiate themselves from “regular” Coast Guardsmen. This was initially strongly disliked, but after a former unit commander who was trained as an assault diver appeared on a display with berets where the badge was bent in, it became accepted.

History

The history of the Coastal Rangers began in the mid-1950s when the Coastal Artillery established a much-needed mobile dimension in combat. The unit was initially called the Close Combat School and the first conscripted “close combat soldiers” moved in on an icy winter day in January 1957. The training was held at the newly established unit (later the Coastal Ranger School) at KA1 on Rindö, outside Vaxholm. Coastal Ranger training has also been trialled in Karlskrona at KA2.

The legendary trident was introduced to the unit in the early 1960s. For most of the unit's history, the trident was worn on the beret, but in 1994 the uniform regulations of the amphibious battalion were standardized and the trident was henceforth worn as a patch on the right sleeve of the uniform, as well as on the chest of the M/87 and M/48. The three points manifest the motto of the Coast Guard.
