Necklace Navy

The Flottan necklace is a heraldically accurate interpretation of the Fleet's anchor with rope. An identical anchor is used as a service sign for the deck service on board ships, but in reality the anchor is a symbol for the entire Swedish fleet.

History

Already during the Viking Age there was a naval organization under the Swedish kings called ledung. The history of the modern navy is generally traced back to the days of Gustav Vasa, more precisely on June 7, 1522, when 750 German mercenaries with ten ships arrived in Söderköping and, after Gustav Vasa's decision, later continued to Stockholm. During the war with Denmark, Charles XI founded the city of Karlskrona, which became the city of the navy, which it still is today.

The Swedish Navy then operated alone until 1756 when the Army Fleet was created, which was responsible for coastal defense and warfare, in other words the equivalent of the Amphibious Corps at the time. The Navy, in turn, operated offshore. These two navies merged in 1823 to form the Royal Navy.

Today, the navy's combat units consist of two naval combat flotillas and one submarine flotilla. In addition, the naval base in Karlskrona also belongs to the navy.
